“From the fruit of his mouth a man eats what is good…”
—Proverbs 13:2

What comes out of our mouth will affect what we experience. And I don’t mean in some weird, mystical way, but in very practical ways.

One way to think about it is seeing our words as seeds that will produce fruit. For instance, if we’re gracious and kind and encouraging, it’s like sowing good seed. In time, those seeds will blossom, and we’ll reap the benefits of better relationships and the good will of others. But if we’re harsh and quick to criticize, we’ll get to experience the strife and contempt that such words produce.

Our words matter–they will produce a crop. And the good thing is, we get to choose what kind of words we’re going to sow.
