When leading others, one question to ask yourself is, Am I making decisions based solely on what I want? or am I making decisions based on what is best for those I’m leading?

While these decisions may not be mutually exclusive, it’s important as a leader to consider the mission and welfare of the group. This could be at work, or at home, or anywhere we have the ability to influence a group of people. The best leaders are the ones who can set aside their personal preferences, and make clear-sighted decisions based on what the team needs, or what the situation demands—not just on what they would personally prefer.
