Life entails change—that’s something we’ve all seen and experienced. Things grow, situations evolve, nothing ever seems to stay the same.

I find it interesting that in the Christian tradition, there’s a connection between the ideas of life and repentance. Although the word ‘repent’ may conjure up all kinds of images, at its root it means, ‘to change’—to change one’s mind, to change one’s direction.

So if life entails change, it seems like it be a good idea to get good at change. And one facet of being good at change is being able to ‘repent’—to be able to change one’s mind or direction based on whatever truth we discover.

It’s this openness to change, and willingness to make it, that enables someone to truly experience life—to make ongoing course corrections based on the reality of what’s actually happening, not just on what we’d prefer.
