This evening, at 5:43 pm, we met the newest member of our family. Say hello to Emilyn Jane — Emi for short.
Although I’ve been through this process before, some of it never gets old. Especially the moment when you come face-to-face with your child for the very first time. When you experience the precious innocence of a newborn, full of potential and promise. And you also feel the weight of responsibility to parent her well.
She’s so tiny, so needy, and yet soon, she’ll be all grown up. It just seems like yesterday that her big sister was born; a little girl that looked remarkably similar to the one I hold in my hands today. And knowing how fast the time has flown by for our oldest makes the time I have with this new addition to the family all the more precious.
It’s been a long day — much longer for my wife than for me — and I’ll be glad to finally get a little rest. And I look forward to getting to better know this little girl we now have in our care.
