When making a decision, one important step is to get a good grasp of what the options are. And the options often come into view when we get clear of the facts of the situations. If all we have is assumptions, making a good decision will be more difficult than if we have facts at our disposal. So taking the time to figure out the facts of the situation can be extraordinarily helpful.

Now, being able to look what we actually know, not just what we assume, may not necessarily give us a single ‘answer’, but it can at least help clarify our options. And if we have realistic options supported by real information, we can at least compare the options and make a decision on what seems best in our situation.

Decisions can sometimes be hard—but getting clear on what our options really are can at least give us a better shot of making wise ones.
