Who are the people you look up to, admire, or respect? Maybe we admire what they’ve done, and the habits that helped get them there. Or perhaps how they handled difficult situations. It might be their character and the way they treat those around them. Whatever the reason is, usually the fact that we look up to them is an indicator that there’s something about them that  we can learn from.

But often it just stops there. We’re content to admire from a distance, but don’t choose to really learn what they may be able to teach us.

What would happen, though, if we intentionally tried to put into practice the habits and choices and character that we admire in others? What would it look like to identify what we can learn from them, and then take steps to do the same in our own lives?

Eventually, we would begin to become more like them, at least in the area we’re trying to imitate. The things that we once admired in them, we would begin to see in ourselves. And who knows, someday there may be others who look up to us and try to do the same.
