Something that I’ve been challenged by recently is the reality that ultimately we as humans do what we want to do.
Now, we may be able to think about things we don’t want to do that we still do. But if we dig deeper, we’ll find that we do these things because there’s something else that we do want that’s driving our behavior. For instance, a disgruntled employee may not want to go to work, yet they still do because they want a paycheck even more.
So, if we find ourselves not doing something that we say we want to do, it’s either because we don’t really want to do it, or because there’s something else we want even more. And knowing this can help free us from the trap of making excuses for our behavior. Ultimately, we’re responsible for what we choose to do. And what we choose to do brings clarity to what we really want.
