The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials. –Lin Yutang

Essential:
Absolutely necessary; extremely important; fundamental or central to the nature of something of someone

What’s truly essential? That’s a question I’ve been asking myself recently.

As we all know, there are countless things that vie for our time and attention every day. But ultimately, only a few of them would count as essential. Which means most of them are non-essential. And although non-essentials aren’t necessarily bad in themselves, the danger is they can quickly take our attention from the things that are most important.

But saying no to the non-essentials in order to focus on the essentials only comes when we are first clear on what the essentials are. Which is why the question of what’s really essential—and what’s not—has had my attention lately. And I hope it’s something you’ll consider as well. Because in finding clarity on what’s truly essential, we’ll be in a better position to give our time and attention to the things that matter most.
