There’s a big difference between being ready and feeling ready.

Some people never feel ready. They may be capable and competent, but they don’t see it that way. They’re ready in the ways that matter, but may need someone or something to force their hand before they realize it.

Sometimes you’ll be the one to help them see what they can do. You’ll put them in a situation or give them an assignment that will stretch them. They’re not so sure they can do it, but you know they’re ready. So you push them forward because you want them to see first-hand what they’re capable of.

Other times you’ll be the one put in a situation you’re not so sure about. But maybe it’s because someone else sees something in you that you don’t yet see. Remember, just because you don’t feel ready, doesn’t mean you’re not.
